'‘Wicked’ Release Date Moved Up, Avoids Clash with ‘Moana 2’ Premiere'

Universal's highly anticipated film adaptation of the Broadway hit, "Wicked," is moving up its release date to hit theaters on Nov. 22, five days earlier than originally planned. The new release date strategically avoids competing with Disney's "Moana 2," which is set to open on the same day. However, "Wicked" will now face off against Paramount and Ridley Scott's "Gladiator II."
The film's director, Jon M. Chu, known for "Crazy Rich Asians" and "In the Heights," is helming the two-part adaptation. Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as the iconic characters Elphaba and Glinda, the story explores their complex relationship against the backdrop of Oz.
This schedule change marks the second move for "Wicked: Part One," which was initially set for a Christmas release. With a stellar cast and beloved songs like "Defying Gravity," "Wicked" is poised to make a splash in theaters this holiday season.
