The James Beard Foundation celebrated its prestigious culinary awards in Chicago, honoring a diverse group of restaurants and chefs from across America. Michael Rafidi of Albi in Washington, D.C., was named outstanding chef and dedicated his win to Palestine. Portland's Langbaan won outstanding restaurant, Dakar NOLA in New Orleans claimed best new restaurant, and Denver's Erika and Kelly Whitaker were awarded outstanding restaurateurs. Lula Cafe in Chicago was recognized for outstanding hospitality. The awards, which have become a glamorous event with red carpet moments and food-centric celebrations, have gained prominence since their inception in 1991.
