Eddie Murphy continues to showcase his talent in his role as Blaxploitation pioneer Rudy Ray Moore in "Dolemite Is My Name", but his return as Detroit cop Axel Foley in the latest installment of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise feels tired and formulaic. Despite the iconic status of the character and the memorable theme song, the fourth film sees Axel once again navigating the glitzy world of Beverly Hills to help his daughter, facing corrupt cops and reuniting with old colleagues. While Murphy still delivers comedic moments and wacky chases, the film lacks the subversive energy of his earlier work. As Murphy's career evolves, audiences must consider their brand loyalty in supporting his projects. While he could still excel in comedy or drama with the right material, "Beverly Hills Cop 4" leaves something to be desired in terms of innovation and freshness.
