Totally Cool, a Maryland-based ice cream manufacturer, issued a national recall of all its ice cream products due to potential listeria contamination. Over 60 products, including pints, ice cream cakes, and sandwiches, have been affected and distributed nationwide. Brands such as Friendly’s, Hershey’s Ice Cream, and Jeni’s are included in the recall. Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, headaches, and abdominal pain. Totally Cool has ceased production of the affected products after FDA sampling detected the bacteria. While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA advises consumers to return the products for a full refund. The investigation is ongoing to prevent further contamination of ice cream products.
