Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 lineup is set to feature a new and improved ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, as reported by Android Authority. This upgraded technology is said to be faster and more reliable than the optical under-display sensor used in the Pixel 6. The new scanner is capable of reading wet or oily fingerprints, addressing previous issues with unlocking the device under various conditions. Unlike optical scanners, which rely on visual detection of patterns, ultrasonic sensors bounce ultrasonic pulses off fingerprints for greater accuracy. This switch is expected to enhance user experience by providing a more efficient and consistent method of unlocking Pixel devices. The Pixel 9 will reportedly use Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008), the same model featured on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Google’s move towards this advanced technology signifies a significant upgrade in biometric authentication for its upcoming flagship smartphones.
