This past weekend saw a few notable specialty releases performing well at the box office. In particular, the Telugu sci-fi epic "Kalki 2898 AD" continued to shine, landing at No. 8 on 925 screens in its second week. With a total gross of $1.79 million and a cume of $16 million, "Kalki" has become one of the highest-grossing Indian films in North America in recent years. The film outperformed the Hindi action film "Kill," which debuted but fell short with Indian diaspora and action genre fans.
Other holdovers like "Thelma" and "Kinds of Kindness" also saw success, with the former taking in $760,000 and the latter bringing in $860,000 over the weekend. Additionally, new limited release "Mother Couch" had a strong debut, grossing $9,000 at the Angelika Film Center. Sony Pictures Classics' "Daddio" also continued to perform well, bringing in $90,000 in its second week.
