Snapchill LLC, a Wisconsin-based coffee manufacturer, has issued a nationwide recall of all canned coffee products within the expiration date due to the potential growth and production of botulinum toxin in the production process. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned that the company's failure to file its low-acid canned foods process with the FDA could result in the deadly toxin. Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can lead to symptoms such as weakness, dizziness, difficulty breathing, and abdominal distension. While no illnesses have been reported, consumers are urged to seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms. The company is working on filing the required notification with the FDA and advises consumers to destroy or return the recalled products for a refund. Products sold under various roaster and brand names in metal cans ranging from 7 to 12 ounces are affected.
