Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (CSSE) has filed for bankruptcy, with nearly $1 billion in debt owed to major creditors such as Walmart and Sony Pictures. The company, which owns streaming service Crackle and acquired Redbox in 2022, had around $400 million in assets as of March. CSSE's stock has dropped by 90% in the past year and was trading at $0.12 following the news. The bankruptcy filing came after reports of delayed employee payments and suspended health care benefits. With Redbox operating 27,000 DVD rental kiosks across the U.S., the future of the company remains uncertain. CSSE, a subsidiary of Chicken Soup for the Soul, LLC, known for the famous book series, has not commented on the situation beyond the court filing.
