DreamWorks Animation has confirmed that “Shrek 5” is in the works, set to release on July 1, 2026, with original stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz returning. The return of Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots is still uncertain. Directed by Walt Dohrn, the film will be produced by Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri, with Brad Ableson as co-director. Murphy has already begun recording his role, hinting at a potential Donkey spinoff movie. The “Shrek” franchise has been a box office success, with the original film winning an Oscar and the sequels grossing over $800 million worldwide each. Meledandri is focused on maintaining the original vocal performances that made the franchise successful. The success of the recent “Puss in Boots” spinoff has fueled interest in a fifth “Shrek” movie, with negotiations underway to bring back the original cast.
