The Porsche 911 GTS defies critics once again with the introduction of the first battery-augmented road-going, rear-engined Porsche ever, set for 2025. A non-plug-in hybrid, this model boasts a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine, boosted to 532 hp with electric assistance, and 449 ft lbs of torque. Despite a minor weight gain, the GTS maintains a manageable curb weight and impressive performance, accelerating from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. However, some purists may lament the loss of analog features in favor of digital enhancements. Driving experiences vary between coupe, cabriolet, and Targa models, with the open-air versions proving slightly less engaging. Yet, on the track, the GTS excels, besting its predecessor’s lap time and offering improved grip with wider tires and a recalibrated suspension. While facing criticism for straying from tradition, the hybrid 911 GTS remains a compelling alternative within Porsche's coveted 911 lineup, promising a blend of power and usability for enthusiasts.
