Prompted by a letter signed by 300 prominent Hollywood Jews, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has vowed to immediately make changes to an exhibit about the Jewish founders of Hollywood that was deemed antisemitic. The United Jewish Writers called for the exhibit, named "Hollywoodland," to be redone with the same respect and enthusiasm given to other parts of the museum. The Academy Museum acknowledged the concerns and committed to address them by eliminating phrasing that may reinforce stereotypes and convening an advisory group of experts. The changes were already underway when the letter was received. The exhibit focuses on studio founders and their achievements, but critics complained that it focused on flaws like tyranny, misogyny, and racism rather than their contributions to the film industry. The museum aims to tell these important stories in an honest, respectful, and impactful manner.
