AI Spam Outranks Original Reporting in Google Search News Results

Despite Google's efforts to improve search results and reduce spammy content, the issue of AI-generated articles plaguing Google News persists. 404 Media reported multiple instances of AI-powered articles appearing for basic searches at the start of the year, prompting Google to announce algorithm changes and new spam policies in February. By April, Google had completed major adjustments to its search engine ranking system, resulting in 45% less low-quality, unoriginal content in search results. However, the problem of AI-generated articles taken from reputable sources, such as the case of Syrus #Blog copying a TechCrunch article, continues to be a prevalent issue. The blog claims to use AI tools to analyze and synthesize information from various sources while respecting intellectual property, though critics argue that simply adding a hyperlink as attribution is insufficient. Google has stated that sites violating its updated spam policies, like creating low-value, unoriginal content for ranking purposes, will face consequences.
