Kroger and Albertson's have announced plans to sell 579 stores, along with distribution centers and a dairy plant, to C&S Wholesale Grocers in the event that their proposed merger is approved by regulators. Employees at affected locations have been informed that they will become employees of C&S after the merger is finalized. The merger, which represents about 20% of the U.S. grocery market, is currently facing opposition from the Federal Trade Commission. If approved, it would impact 1 out of 6 grocery laborers. The United Food & Commercial Workers union has expressed concerns about the merger's potential harm to workers, shoppers, suppliers, and communities. Kroger, Albertsons, and C&S have not provided comment on the matter. The specific stores in Illinois that are set to be sold have been listed.
