Amazon is planning a major overhaul of its decade-old Alexa service, with a new generative AI called “Remarkable Alexa” that could come with a monthly fee of $5 or more for enhanced features. The project, known internally as “Banyan,” aims to revitalize the voice assistant introduced in 2014. Described as a “must win” year for Alexa, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is personally involved in the revamp, promising a more intelligent assistant. The new service could offer advanced tasks like composing emails, ordering food, and more personalized interactions, challenging rivals like Google and Apple in the AI space. Despite past setbacks and employee morale issues, Amazon is pushing ahead with plans for a premium Alexa experience, including potential tiered pricing and a launch deadline of August.
