Amazon is in the process of revamping its popular Alexa assistant, with plans to introduce a new version that supports conversational generative AI. The updated Alexa will come in two tiers: a free tier and a premium tier that could cost between $5 to $10 per month. Despite considering various price points, Amazon has confirmed that the premium Alexa tier will not be bundled with its Prime subscription. The update is seen as a pivotal move for Amazon, as it looks to revitalize Alexa, which has not seen significant updates in a decade. Dubbed "Remarkable Alexa" internally, the new version is expected to offer advanced capabilities like crafting emails, providing shopping advice, and ordering food delivery. Additionally, Amazon aims to enhance Alexa's control over smart home devices and improve automation routines. With a targeted completion date of August, Amazon's revamped Alexa is slated for launch later this year, putting it in direct competition with Apple's upcoming Siri update. Though Apple's new functions may not be fully available until 2025, both tech giants are gearing up for a heated battle in the AI assistant arena.
