Arm, known for its high-quality processors, is entering the graphics upscaling market with its Accuracy Super Resolution (ASR) technology. Based on AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 2, ASR aims to reduce GPU usage and improve performance on devices like phones and tablets. By tuning ASR to run well on low-power mobile GPUs, Arm claims it can achieve 20 to 40 percent better frame rates than competitors like FSR2. The technology also promises reduced thermal throttling, leading to a stable user experience even at high resolutions. While Apple and Qualcomm have their own upscaling technologies, Arm is making ASR open-source under an MIT license, allowing for collaboration and potential improvements in image quality. With major players like Microsoft and Qualcomm also investing in upscaling technology, the field is getting crowded but promises innovative solutions beyond just enhancing graphics.
