American Airlines CEO Robert Isom has expressed his disappointment and called the removal of several Black passengers from a flight in Phoenix over a complaint about body odor "unacceptable." The incident, which led to employees being placed on leave, was criticized by Isom for contradicting the airline's values and failing its customers. Three Black passengers sued American Airlines, claiming they were removed due to racial discrimination. After a confrontation with airline personnel, they were allowed back on the plane following a delay. Isom announced the formation of an advisory group to address the experience of Black customers, improve diversity training, and promote the reporting of discrimination allegations. This incident is not the first time American Airlines has faced allegations of discrimination, with the airline previously warned by the NAACP for mistreatment of African American passengers in 2017.
