Amtrak and N.J. Transit Train Services Disrupted by Power Outage

A power failure on Thursday afternoon caused a complete shutdown of all train services along the Northeast Corridor between Philadelphia and New Haven, Conn., leading to significant disruptions during the evening commute on a scorching hot day. Amtrak had to temporarily halt all services along the 150-mile stretch of rails due to a lack of power, with several trains getting stuck including one Acela train running over an hour late and another stranded in Queens. Amtrak attributed the failure to a malfunctioning circuit-breaker, ruling out any connection to a nearby brush fire. New Jersey Transit's commuter service was also affected as its trains share the same corridor with Amtrak between New York City and Trenton, N.J. Amtrak was working to resolve the issue by sending a diesel engine to retrieve the stranded train in Queens and resume normal operations.
