Amtrak experienced a power outage on the tracks causing disruptions along the northeast corridor between Boston and New York. The outage, believed to be caused by a lightning strike, led to delays and cancellations throughout the day on Saturday. The company communicated directly with affected customers, offering rebooking options and apologizing for any inconvenience. By late Saturday, service between Boston and New York was restored, with most trains operating on a regular schedule on Sunday. Some trains were cancelled or operating on a modified schedule due to equipment issues. Amtrak stated that travelers could change their reservations without additional charges and would be accommodated on similar trains or alternate dates. Despite the disruptions, Amtrak expected a surge in Fourth of July holiday travel, nearing pre-pandemic levels. For more information, individuals were advised to contact Amtrak directly.
