The relationship between tech giants Apple and Meta (formerly Facebook) has been contentious in recent years, with clashes over privacy and app store policies. However, a surprising partnership may be on the horizon. The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple and Meta are in talks to integrate Meta AI models into iOS 18 for Apple Intelligence.
Similar to the current partnership with ChatGPT, this integration would allow users to access Meta AI for certain requests through Siri. The deal stipulates that Meta AI cannot collect user data and must delete information after processing requests. Users can access this feature for free, with the option to sign in for additional features.
Apple has expressed interest in offering a variety of AI models, with potential partnerships with Google, Perplexity, Anthropic, and others. Apple Intelligence will debut later this year with the iOS 18 update, initially in US English for select devices. Additional language and region support will follow.
