Apple has reportedly increased its order of next-generation chips from TSMC to meet the anticipated demand of between 90 million and 100 million units for its upcoming iPhone 16 series, surpassing last year's initial order for the iPhone 15 series. The introduction of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 is expected to drive initial sales as it will require at least an iPhone 15 Pro to run, prompting users to upgrade. The A18-branded chips manufactured using TSMC's N3E process will power all four models in the iPhone 16 lineup, potentially featuring improvements in AI and machine learning performance. Additionally, the standard iPhone 16 models may receive a RAM upgrade to 8GB to support running large-language models locally on the device. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 series in the fall, continuing its tradition of releasing new models around mid-September.
