Apple has emerged victorious in a case against App Store restrictions, with a California federal court ruling against a proposed class action suit. The suit accused Apple of blocking iOS developers from using competing technology. As of January 2024, Apple ceased requiring iOS browsers to use its WebKit technology in the EU. The lawsuit challenged Apple's closed ecosystem of apps and services, claiming it stifled competition and added costs for consumers. The plaintiffs argued that if developers were not required to use WebKit, they could develop once for both iPhone and Android, resulting in lower consumer costs. Despite the ruling being dismissed due to legal standing concerns, the plaintiffs have the opportunity to submit an amended lawsuit. Apple's win in this case sets a precedent and may benefit the company in future legal disputes.
