Apple to Launch Satellite Text Messaging Service in 2022

At Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, the focus was on Intelligence, but a new feature called Messages via satellite for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 in iOS 18 stole the show. This feature allows users to send iMessages and SMS messages even without cellular or Wi-Fi connection, ideal for staying in touch while off the grid or camping. Apple's Emergency SOS via satellite is already in use for emergencies, but Messages via satellite is geared towards everyday communication. This feature works by detecting the lack of cellular or Wi-Fi signal, prompting users to send texts or make calls via satellite. While limited to text messages and emojis for now, it offers a reliable way to communicate in remote areas. This feature will be available on iPhone 14 and newer models with iOS 18 coming out later this year, with details on pricing yet to be announced.
