Media mogul Barry Diller is considering making a bid for Paramount, according to The New York Times. Diller's IAC Corp. has signed nondisclosure agreements with National Amusements Inc., the company's majority shareholder, but the status of the talks remains unclear. Paramount representatives and NAI have not commented on the potential acquisition.
Diller, who previously led Paramount Pictures and was once outbid for the company by Shari Redstone's father, is looking to take control of the struggling studio. Other parties, including Sony and an investor group led by Steven Paul, have shown interest in Paramount as well. Shares in the company have plummeted, leading to a CEO overhaul and the appointment of co-CEOs.
The potential sale of Paramount is the latest chapter in the ongoing saga, with Diller's interest sparking hope for the studio's future.
