In a highly anticipated event, Ben Stiller returns to the big screen in David Gordon Green's comedy, Nutcrackers, set to open the 2024 Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 5. Stiller plays Mike, a workaholic who must care for his orphaned nephews in rural Ohio, leading to chaotic farm-life mayhem and unexpected connections. With a stellar ensemble cast including Linda Cardellini and Edi Patterson, Nutcrackers promises ample star wattage at its world premiere. Toronto also announced Rebel Wilson's directorial debut, The Deb, as the festival closer, following the story of Taylah and her city cousin Maeve navigating self-acceptance and the Debutante Ball. Despite production challenges, both films showcase humor and empathy, fitting into Toronto's tradition of spotlighting mainstream crowd-pleasers. The 49th edition of TIFF will feature a diverse lineup, including titles like Eden, K-Pops, and Elton John: Never Too Late, promising a star-studded and dynamic showcase of cinema talent.
