BMW is recalling over 390,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to potentially dangerous airbag inflators that can explode, causing serious injury or death. The issue involves replacement steering wheels equipped with Takata inflators, which can explode and release sharp metal fragments. Despite no reported accidents or injuries in the U.S. related to this problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging owners of certain 2006-2011 3 Series Sedan and 2006-2012 3 Series Sportswagon vehicles to have their driver's airbag module inspected and replaced for free by BMW dealers. The owner notification letters are set to be mailed on Aug. 23, and affected individuals can contact BMW customer service or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline for more information. This recall serves as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all BMW vehicle occupants.
