Bob’s Stores to Shutter All 21 Locations, Including New Jersey Store, After 70 Years in Business

Discount retailer Bob’s Stores is closing all 21 of its brick-and-mortar locations, including one in New Jersey, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The closure will result in the permanent shutdown of these stores and the liquidation of their inventory. Bob’s president Dave Barton expressed regret over the financial circumstances leading to this decision, acknowledging the chain’s longstanding presence in local communities for nearly 70 years. The New Jersey location in Freehold is among those closing soon. With stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island, Bob’s is offering discounts of 30-70% on all items in a “Going Out of Business Sale.” Originally founded in 1954, the chain has undergone several ownership changes, most recently being acquired by the GoDigital Media group in 2022. This closure adds Bob’s to the list of retail chains, including Red Lobster and Rite Aid, that have been forced to close locations.
