Two American tech giants, Apple and Meta, are facing new regulatory challenges in Europe. The European Commission is reportedly bringing charges against Apple for not complying with a requirement to allow app developers to direct users to offers outside the App Store without charging fees, under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This would be the first time the EC has taken such action under the DMA. Apple has stated that they are confident their plan complies with the regulations. On the other hand, Meta is pausing the launch of its AI assistant, Meta AI, in Europe after the Irish Data Protection Commission asked them to delay training the models with content shared on their platforms. Meta expressed disappointment with the request, stating that it hampers European innovation. Despite this setback, Meta remains committed to bringing Meta AI to users worldwide.
