LS Greenlink USA, a subsidiary of South Korean-based LS Cable & System, is set to build a $681 million manufacturing facility for undersea cables in Chesapeake, marking a significant win for the Hampton Roads offshore wind industry. The 750,000-square-foot plant on 100 acres of Chesapeake brownfield will create over 330 full-time jobs. The facility will be located at the Chesapeake Deep Water Terminal and will include a massive 660-foot-tall tower, making it the tallest building in Virginia. The move comes after Virginia beat out 15 other states to secure the project. Governor Youngkin approved a $13.2 million grant to assist Chesapeake in attracting the development. This announcement is a major milestone for the region's offshore wind sector, signaling potential growth and investment in the Hampton Roads area.
