Qualcomm recently introduced the Snapdragon X Plus, a less powerful version of the Snapdragon X Elite, which powers the base model of the Surface Laptop 7 priced at $999. Microsoft positioned this ARM-powered notebook to compete with Apple's M3 MacBook Air, but a YouTuber discovered a significant issue during a Cinebench test - severe battery drain on the Windows device. The test showed that the Snapdragon X Plus-fueled Surface Laptop 7 drained from 100% to 65% battery in just 20 minutes of running Cinebench. While the performance of Qualcomm's chipset was impressive, the battery drain problem is concerning.
In comparison, the M2 MacBook Air only dropped to 90% battery in the same test, suggesting Apple's hardware and software ecosystem offers better efficiency. The Surface Laptop 7, despite running Windows, faces challenges due to its use of an off-the-shelf Qualcomm chipset. This highlights the advantage of Apple's integrated approach.
