Congress leader KC Venugopal received a threat notification from Apple warning him that his iPhone was targeted by mercenary spyware. The notification, which was also sent to him in October 2023, revealed that his device was under attack once again. Venugopal is the third person to receive such a notification this quarter, following PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter and another political figure. Venugopal accused the government of using spyware to invade privacy and vowed to oppose such unconstitutional acts. In response, he thanked PM Modi for sending the spyware and criticized the government for going after political opponents. This incident comes after Apple sued the NSO Group, the maker of Pegasus spyware, leading to the launch of quarterly threat notifications to potentially affected users. As the Parliament session approaches, Venugopal's party will decide on their next steps in response to this breach of privacy.
