Cruise, the driverless car subsidiary of General Motors, has announced the appointment of Marc Whitten, a veteran of the video game industry, as its new CEO. This decision comes after the previous CEO resigned due to safety issues with its vehicles, including a pedestrian being dragged underneath a Cruise car in San Francisco. Whitten, who was most recently an executive at Unity, brings experience from Xbox and Amazon to the role. Cruise has faced a tumultuous year, being ordered by California regulators to pull its fleet off the road and laying off a quarter of its workforce. Whitten will join Mo Elshenawy and Craig Glidden to lead the company. In a statement, Whitten expressed excitement about working with the team at Cruise to bring their world-class technology to life.
