Disney's U.S. theme park resorts are set to unveil a groundbreaking new attraction centered around the first Black Disney princess, Tiana. This move comes as an update to the outdated Splash Mountain ride, which was based on the racially insensitive movie "Song of the South." Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, opening later this year, breathes new life into the log-flume ride concept with a vibrant portrayal of 1920s New Orleans, inspired by “The Princess and the Frog.”
This transformation is part of Disney's ongoing effort to address past problematic racial depictions in its attractions. While some critics question whether this change truly tackles underlying racial issues, others believe it is a significant step toward inclusivity and representation in the theme park experience. Amid societal shifts and evolving sensibilities, Disney seeks to tell stories that resonate with a diverse global audience while phasing out outdated, offensive narratives from its legacy rides.
