Google's Advanced Protection Program now offers passkey support, making it easier to join without the need for a physical security key. Passkeys, protected by a PIN, fingerprint, or face unlock, can now be used on your phone or computer. The program allows for various combinations of passkeys and security keys as primary and secondary security factors, along with recovery options. Requirements include specific operating systems for devices and a hardware security key that supports the FIDO2 protocol. This program offers the highest level of Google Account security with additional safeguards against phishing, malware, and unauthorized data access. In addition to 2-step verification, it provides stricter Safe Browsing checks and limits Android app installs to verified sources. Google has also introduced measures to block third-party access to account data. Passkey support was introduced in May, and interested users can now easily sign up for the Advanced Protection Program with passkeys.
