Epic Games Takes Apple Dispute to European Commission over Button Design Issue

Apple has now accepted Epic Games' previously rejected store notarization submission. Epic's submission, which was initially declined by Apple, alleged that Apple's refusal was "arbitrary, obstructive, and in violation of the Digital Markets Act." Apple had issues with the similarity in design of Epic's call-to-action buttons to their own, such as the "Get" and "In-app purchases" buttons. Epic argued that they were following industry naming conventions and best practices. Despite this acceptance, Epic has not confirmed whether they have retracted their call for the European Commission to investigate Apple. The European Commission has already started an investigation into Apple's alleged non-compliance with EU regulations, which could result in a fine of up to 10% of Apple's global annual revenue. Epic remains prepared to launch the Epic Games Store and Fortnite on iOS in the EU in the coming months, pending any further obstacles from Apple.
