American Rounds, a company behind high-tech vending machines dispensing ammunition, has installed them in grocery stores across the South. Buyers must be at least 21, and the machine verifies identities using facial recognition technology and credit card payments only. CEO Grant Magers believes this method makes buying ammo safer than traditional methods. While some praise the convenience, others, like David Pucino, legal director for the Giffords Law Center, warn it could make ammo more accessible to criminals. The machines are mainly in rural areas where gun owners may have limited access to ammo. Magers restocks them every two weeks to a month with seasonal hunting rounds. Despite some safety measures, experts argue that the machines exploit gaps in federal law and lack proper background checks. While providing convenience, the ammo dispensers may pose risks in terms of potential misuse.
