Figma's AI App Creator Under Fire for Alleged Plagiarism of Apple's Weather App Design

Figma, a technology design company, recently withdrew an AI-powered app creator tool called Make Designs after facing accusations of copying Apple's weather app. The CEO defended the tool against plagiarism claims but acknowledged that there was a problem with the underlying design systems. The tool allowed users to describe an app in plain English and generate a user interface automatically. However, it was discovered that multiple attempts to create a weather app resulted in a design similar to Apple's weather app. The CEO explained that the AI system was not trained on Figma content but used language models to create designs. Despite the defense, Figma faced criticism for the lack of variability in the generated designs. The company's $20bn takeover bid by Adobe was thwarted by regulators in the EU and UK, leading to the termination of the deal.
