Figma CEO Dylan Field has announced the temporary disabling of the company's "Make Design" AI feature after accusations that it was replicating Apple's Weather app. The issue, first brought to light by Andy Allen, founder of NotBoring Software, revealed that Figma's tool was reproducing the Apple design when used as a design aid. Despite Field denying the accusations of heavily training the tool on existing apps, concerns within the design community grew. The Make Design feature, intended to generate UI layouts and components from text prompts, will be disabled until the team can ensure the quality of its output. Field admitted fault for the oversight in the QA process and vowed to address the underlying design systems. The move highlights the challenges of AI tools in design and the importance of thorough testing before implementation.
