Eric Dane, known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy, opened up about his exit from the show on the Armchair Expert podcast. The actor, who portrayed McSteamy from 2006 to 2012, disclosed that he believes he was let go due to escalating costs for the network and his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction during his tenure. Dane confessed to a relapse during the Writers Guild of America Strike in 2007, causing him to become a different person than when he was hired. Despite this, he praised show creator Shonda Rhimes for her support and protection. Dane believes his sudden fame and overwhelming success on Grey's Anatomy may have contributed to his downward spiral. The show has remained popular, with Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey now a recurring character. ABC has renewed the series for a 21st season, solidifying its enduring legacy.
