The Find My Device network was relaunched by Google to compete with Apple's Find My network, with the aim of creating a worldwide web of compatible devices to help locate lost items using Bluetooth trackers. In a test conducted by Namerah Saud Fatmi featuring trackers from Chipolo and Pebblebee, it was found that while the trackers functioned well within Bluetooth range, the network struggled to locate items once out of range and faced limited participation from Android users. Despite the potential of the Find My Device network, the lack of widespread participation poses a challenge to its effectiveness. To fully utilize this technology, Google may need to incentivize more users to contribute to the network and simplify the options for participation. Unless more users actively participate, the Find My Device network may fall short of its intended purpose, casting doubt on the need for upgrading to the latest Bluetooth trackers.
