At I/O 2024, Google announced new anti-theft features for Android users in Brazil. The Theft Detection Lock uses sensors to detect when a phone is being stolen and will lock it if the thief tries to run away. Offline Device Lock prevents unauthorized access when the internet is disabled by a thief. Remote Lock allows users to quickly lock their phone by calling a number and completing a security challenge. These features will be available through Play services for Android 10+ later this year. The new functionality was inspired by feedback from Brazilian users and the country will be the first to test it out. Users in Brazil can sign up to test the Theft Detection Lock feature through a form provided by Google. In addition to anti-theft features, Brazilian users can now interact with businesses via text or WhatsApp, schedule local appointments, and use AI to digitize menus.
