Google recently discontinued its paid-for VPN service through Google One but made up for it by offering all consumer account holders access to its once-exclusive Dark Web monitoring feature. The new tool will search a global database for leaked personal information, alerting users if any sensitive data has been compromised.
Although Google ended VPN by Google One in favor of promoting its latest phone models with built-in VPNs or Google Fi Wireless plans, they are expanding access to Dark Web monitoring for all consumer account holders. This includes regular updates on any personal data found on dark websites.
While the monitoring feature cannot actively remove compromised information, it serves as a valuable tool for users to protect their privacy and take necessary actions to secure their data. This move by Google demonstrates a commitment to maintaining essential security features even amidst changes to its paid services.
