Howard University announced on Friday the severing of ties with music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in response to a video depicting his assault on ex-girlfriend Cassie in 2016. The Board of Trustees disbanded a scholarship in Combs’ name, terminated a gift agreement worth $1 million, and accepted the return of his honorary degree. The unanimous decision to revoke all honors and privileges associated with the degree was made due to mounting sexual assault allegations and legal challenges against Combs, including a federal investigation and civil lawsuits. A video released in May showed him beating Cassie, prompting Combs to issue an apology for his “inexcusable” behavior. Howard University cited the video as the reason for cutting ties with Combs, stating that his actions were incompatible with the institution's values. Despite settlements and denials, allegations of assault continue to surround Combs.
