The university's Board of Trustees stated that Combs' behavior in the video goes against the core values of Howard University, leading to the unanimous decision to revoke his honorary degree. Additionally, the board has instructed the termination of any financial connections with Combs, including returning his $1 million contribution and dissolving a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation. Combs publicly admitted to the assault on Cassie and expressed remorse for his actions. The lawsuit filed by Cassie against Combs last year further solidified the university's decision to cut ties with the music mogul.
