Intuit, the tax preparation and financial software giant, recently announced a reorganization plan focused on AI, resulting in the layoff of approximately 10% of its workforce. The company plans to let go of 1,800 employees but expects to hire a similar number by fiscal year 2025 as it integrates AI into its products and services. CEO Sasan Goodarzi stated that the layoffs were due to employees not meeting expectations and to reallocate resources towards growth areas. The company will close offices in Boise and Edmonton, with some employees transferring to new locations. Intuit is offering laid-off US employees a minimum of 16 weeks of pay, two additional weeks for each year of service, and at least six months of health insurance coverage. The reorganization plan is estimated to incur $250-260 million in charges. Despite the news, Intuit shares fell by 3.6% in morning trading.
