Apple has officially confirmed plans to integrate Rich Communication Services (RCS) into iOS 18 this autumn, as announced by Apple software chief Craig Federighi at the WWDC keynote. Although the tech giant had hinted at RCS adoption since last November, a specific rollout timeline was initially uncertain. Despite being a bit behind Google and U.S. carriers in adopting RCS, Apple aims to enhance text communication on the iPhone, particularly with Android users. Some notable features include higher resolution media, larger file sharing capacities, audio messages, emoji reactions, real-time typing indicators, read receipts, and improved group chats. The shift to RCS will modernize texting capabilities and open up new possibilities for iPhone users interacting with Android handsets. Whether RCS support will be available during the iOS 18 beta phase or saved for the public release remains to be seen. Nonetheless, it is confirmed that RCS will be a pivotal component of iOS 18.
