Kevin Costner‘s highly anticipated film, Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2, has been postponed from its August 16 release date. This decision was made after the disappointing debut of Chapter 1 in theaters last month. Costner’s production company, Territory Pictures, and distribution partner New Line Cinema, are opting to focus on growing the audience for the first film, which comes with a hefty $100 million budget. Chapter 1 will now be available on Premium VOD starting July 16 to attract more viewers.
This sudden change has left theater owners scrambling to refund advanced tickets for Chapter 2. The Horizon series is a major investment for Costner, who put $38 million of his own money into Chapter 1. Despite receiving mixed reviews and a modest box office performance, Costner remains committed to completing four films in total. While the future release date for Chapter 2 remains uncertain, Costner and his team plan to resume shooting Chapter 3 in August.
