Apple has expanded the alternative app marketplace and other app-related changes introduced in iOS 17.4 to the iPad in the EU with the second beta of iPadOS 18. This move is in compliance with the EU's Digital Markets Act, which designates iPadOS as a gatekeeper platform. The updated features include alternative payment options in the App Store, a web browser selection screen in Safari, and the ability for web browsers to use engines other than Apple's WebKit on both the iPhone and iPad. Core Technology Fee for alternative app marketplaces will also apply to the iPad. iPadOS 18 is currently in beta for developers and will have a public beta in July before the full release in September. This update marks a significant step in Apple's efforts to comply with EU regulations and provide users with more choices and flexibility.
