The world's leading record labels, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, are launching legal battles against AI music-making companies Suno and Udio-maker Uncharted Labs. These companies have released AI programs that create music from text prompts, leading to concerns about the impact of generative artificial intelligence on the music industry. The lawsuits, filed by the Recording Industry Association of America, allege that Suno and Udio have illegally used copyrighted sound recordings to train their models, resulting in the creation of songs that mimic real artists without consent or compensation. The music labels are seeking declarations of infringement, injunctions against future violations, and damages for past infringements. This legal action underscores the need for responsible and ethical development of AI systems in the music industry.
