Several popular ice cream brands, including Friendly’s, Hershey’s, and Chipwich, have been recalled due to possible Listeria contamination. Totally Cool, Inc, based in Maryland, issued the recall for products distributed nationwide after FDA sampling revealed traces of Listeria monocytogenes. While there have been no reported illnesses, Listeria can cause serious infections, especially in vulnerable populations. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, and gastrointestinal issues, which can appear within two weeks of consuming contaminated food. Earlier this year, a Listeria outbreak linked to cheese resulted in hospitalizations and deaths. Consumers are advised to avoid recalled ice cream products and seek medical attention if they suspect Listeria exposure. This serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and the potential risks associated with consuming contaminated products.
